β Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about epoxy resin flooring with FLUiD Floors.
π How long does an epoxy floor take to install?
Most epoxy resin floor installations take between 1 to 3 days, depending on the size and condition of the area.
The process typically includes:
Surface preparation (cleaning, degreasing, and profiling)
Priming and crack treatment
Layering of base coats, colour coats, and sealants
Curing time, which begins as soon as the final layer is applied
We'll advise you of the timeline during your estimate, but for most domestic spaces, a 2-day install is typical.
𧽠What surface prep is required before installing epoxy?
Every successful resin floor starts with proper preparation. We mechanically prepare the existing surface using specialist tools to remove dust, grime, oils, and laitance.
If your floor has cracks, uneven patches, or old coatings, we'll treat or level those areas as part of the prep process β ensuring a strong bond and a flawless finish.
𧱠Can epoxy be installed over tiles, concrete, or wood?
We can install over most solid subfloors β concrete, tiles, and even well-secured wood or screed β provided the surface is clean, dry, and stable.
In some cases, weβll recommend a primer or levelling compound before application. We'll assess your subfloor during your quote.
π Are epoxy resin floors suitable for homes?
Absolutely. Resin flooring is increasingly popular in kitchens, bathrooms, living spaces, and hallways thanks to its:
Seamless look
Easy maintenance
Durability
Stunning design options
Itβs waterproof, hygienic, and easy to clean β ideal for modern households.
π’ Are they durable enough for commercial spaces?
Yes β epoxy floors are widely used in shops, salons, gyms, showrooms, bars, and industrial units due to their resistance to:
Heavy footfall
Cleaning chemicals
Scratches and spills
We can tailor the finish β matte, gloss, slip-resistant, etc. β to match your business needs.
π§Ή Do I need to remove existing floor coverings before installation?
In most cases, yes β all soft coverings like carpet, vinyl, or laminate must be removed to expose the bare substrate before we can begin.
However, some hard surfaces like tiles may be suitable to install over, provided they are sound, level, and well bonded. In these cases, weβll apply a self-levelling compound over the tiles to create a smooth, stable base.
β οΈ This process will add to both the installation time and overall cost, but it can be a practical alternative to full tile removal in certain settings. Weβll assess your floor during the quote and advise on the best approach.
π‘οΈ How long before I can walk on or use the floor?
Light foot traffic: 24β48 hours
Full cure (furniture/machinery/load bearing): 5β7 days
Weβll advise you during installation based on the product system we use.
π¨ Can I customise the colour and finish?
Yes β every FLUiD Floor is bespoke. Choose from:
Solid colours
Metallic finishes
Marbled or swirled effects
Dual-tone zoning
Weβll work with you to select a design that fits your space and style.
π° How much does it cost?
